Mobile World TV Panel
Discussion – Calming the high-alert control center |
 |
 |
Mobile World TV studio - Hall 7 Stand #7C95
Monday February 11, 16:40
Invited participants include:
Ananda Subbiah, Worldwide VP, Industry Solutions, CME, HP and Representatives
from leading operator and industry Analyst.
Synopsis:
Anyone can develop a network management product that detects alarm
conditions across a network and reports them back to a central control
room. In fact so successful has this approach been that many of today’s systems
often display so many alarms that the technicians just ignore 95% of them
until they fix themselves. The real trick is to get clever and introduce as
much automation and diagnosis as possible, so that problems can be identified
and resolved automatically – the end-result won’t be as dramatic
as a video wall lighting up in red, but it will make a huge difference
for the people manning the control room. So how important is the network management
function today and what features have service providers been asking
for. How important is network management problem diagnosis and automatic reconfiguration
play in the systems now being designed and launched? How far has
the industry come in automating network management functions? |

Mobile World TV Panel
Discussion: EU legislation on communications data retention systems – Retaining
the data and relieving the headache |
 |
 |
Mobile World TV studio - Hall 7 Stand 7C95
Tuesday February 12, 12:40
Invited participants include:
Enrico Sala, IT Governance Department, Telecom Italia;
Jon Paisner, Analyst, Yankee Group;
Rod Kirwan, Partner, Denton Wilde Sapte, Leading International Legal Firm;
Nigel Upton, General Manager DRAGON, HP
Synopsis:
Data retention: Retaining the data and relieving the headache. Between now and March 2009, all communication service providers (CSPs) within the European Union (EU) must implement communications data retention systems for call and Internet usage or face penalties for non-compliance. The typical CSP will need to capture upwards of 200 million communications data records (xDRs) per day, retain them for up to two years and respond to law enforcement agency (LEA) requests without undue delay allowing governments to access this data to fight crime and terrorism. There are approximately 1,000 CSPs in the EU that are affected by the EU legislation. CSPs are now facing a compliance headache to manage and secure the ever-increasing volumes of data generated. What are the implications for the telecoms industry and how can compliance be facilitated? |
