HP’s DRAGON — Launched to Help Telecommunication Service Providers Manage Data in Fight Against Global Terrorism, Crime and Drugs

HP has announced a new data retention solution for telecommunication service providers that are being asked by governments to join the fight against global terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking.

The world's service providers face a formidable challenge as many might be asked by governments to collect and store data from a variety of sources. This means the typical network operator might be storing billions of daily call records and event transactions equivalent to hundreds of terabytes of data storage each year.

DRAGON leverages HP's 30 years of experience in telecom networks and 10 years of experience in the retention of call detail records to help operators meet data retention requirements. The solution is custom-built with fast, efficient search and retrieval, designed to integrate with existing OSS/BSS environments and provides a high degree of flexibility and scalability to accommodate growth and changing requirements. Security features are enabled through powerful user authentication controls as well as data and document encryption. All operations are fully auditable.

“HP is entering this emerging market as one of the early leaders,” said Fernando Elizalde, senior industry analyst, Frost and Sullivan. “Governments are starting to place large and complex burdens on carriers, and they need help from experienced partners. HP, with its dual IT and telecom expertise – and seven installations already – is clearly gaining traction in the market.”
